59-79 New Jersey passenger types
From AAA-100 to EYZ-999 according to the ALPCA archive,
and well into the F series, New Jersey plates were made of thin aluminum
with painted backs.
When the State first changed over to the 1959-79 style plate, the prison
could not gear-up quickly enough so 200,000 plates were Arkansas-made.
The plate on the left with the blocked B was made in Arkansas. The B with
serifs was made in the state prison.
Heavy steel with painted back.
These types covered the GLA-000 to RHZ-999 serials.
Reflectorized background on steel plate that was issued
beginning in 1969.
The serials cover from RIA-100 to SZZ-999
From UAA-100 to YZZ-999, New Jersey plates were made
of galvanized steel and had painted backs.
Beginning in 1973, plates were issued with a beveled
edge.
This covered plates from 000-AAA to 100-AMN according to the ALPCA archive.
I believe they go into the G series. The serial on this one would indicate
a 1976 issuance.
Jim Moini of Bergenfield, New Jersey
has these plates broken down by year using serial number information.
